Important contact for you at
the phone: Elke Wachter,
master of Equine Management
The team of the service station.
General information:
• There are 50 spacious box stalls available for guest mares. Boarding fees are Euro 8,00/day, mare and foal Euro 10,00/day including VAT. Pre-booking is appreciated.
• A swab examination is required for all mares, excluding three-year-old maiden mares and mares following a normal birth and a foal at feet.
An influenza vaccination (less than 12 months ago) and a tetanus vaccination (less than 24 months ago) are required for mares that will be inseminated at our service station. To protect your own mare, we would recommend vaccinating her against virus abortion (Herpes-1), latest at the beginning of gestation.
Dispatch of semen
• The breeding season starts as of January 15 and ends on August 1, 2010. Exceptions are possible upon prior arrangement.
• Please be so kind as to order semen for the next day from Monday to Friday until 10.00 am, on Saturday until 9.00 am. No semen will be dispatched on Sunday and on public holidays.
• Semen will be couriered by a private company to authorized veterinarians. The transport will be charged separately. Collection of semen is possible as of 2.00 pm.
• Three doses of semen maximum will be dispatched for each heat, in the main breeding season two doses. The signed documents accompanying the semen will have to be returned within one week.
• Should the stud fee not be paid latest within two weeks following the date of the invoice, we reserve the right to refuse additional shipments of semen.
• Shipment of frozen semen upon prior arrangement.
Stud fees/Documents
• The stud fees valid for 2010 mentioned in this catalogue include VAT and are payable upon receipt of the first semen dose resp. upon collection of the mare.
• The stud fee will be reduced by 50% in the following breeding season for all mares covered or inseminated that did not conceive (should the mare not be used for breeding any more in the new breeding season, a reduction of stud fee of 25% can be transferred to another mare).
• An additional discount of 10% will be granted for the second and more mares bred to Birkhof-stallions.
• State premium mares or registered sport mares as well as dams of stallions will be granted a discount of Euro 50 unless no other discount was granted before.
• We grant a one-time travelling allowance for mares brought to our stud as long as the distance to your home exceeds 50 km.
• Should one stallion not be available for breeding (sickness or competitions etc.), frozen semen will be available or a change of stallion will be possible.
• When ordering semen resp. upon delivery of your mare, the following data is required: name and complete address of the mare owner, details of the mare: name, registration number, pedigree, age, colour and markings, breed society that has to be informed about the breeding and – if necessary – name and address of the vet (shipping address). The original breeding certificate has to be presented to the stallion owner (not to the vet!).
• The breeding certificate will be issued at the end of the breeding season. It will be send to the responsible breed society and to the breeder after settlement of stud fee.
Veterinarian
• Our station veterinarian will be responsible for the mares stabled at our station. She will be at your disposal for follicle and gestation examinations, special examinations (fitness for breeding, biopsy etc.) and other questions upon prior arrangement. Pregnancy checks can be made as of 2.00 pm (upon prior arrangement).
• A mare that has not been pregnant after several seasons might require additional examinations (for example cytology, biopsy, hormone level – depending on the individual mares). This may be done at our service station as well.
