Birkhof History
1962 The Gestüt Birkhof had been Count Rechberg's Manor. Alfred Casper who descends from Silesia, was administrator of this manor. Following the sale to the Württemberg national estate,the Birkhof was divided into different settler's holdings.
Alfred Casper purchased a settler's holding in 1962 and his old riding horse, the mare Solistin by Sohn – she was 16 years old and the tap-root mare of today's stud. Her first foal, the mare Lolita by Lot, will be dam to Tarik (by Talismann) later on, one of the most successful jumpers in Baden-Württemberg under Jürgen Casper (among them fifth place at the German Junior Championships in 1977).

1965 Mid of the seventies (?) Alfred Casper started to purchase weaned foals at the Riedlinger Foal Market – in 1965 also the filly Hiva by Himalaja.
1970 The half-timbered manor was offered for sale; but all facilities had been renovated from the ground up by the new owner.
1971 The old machine hall was rebuilt into an indoor riding arena (14 x 23 m in the beginning, later on enlarged to 14 x 28 m).

1972 The colt Koriolan by Kornett was purchased in Riedlingen – he will be the first licensed stallion on the Gestüt Birkhof later on.

1977 The Riedlingen auction foal Hiva becomes Baden-Württemberg Vice Champion of young show jumping riders with Thomas Casper.
Her son Tänzer by Talisan was the most successful horse at the International Junior Championships in Fontainebleau (2nd place at the Nations Cup) with Jürgen Casper and participated in the same year at the European Junior Championships.

1980 Thomas Casper wins the Baden-Württemberg Championships for young riders with the mare Ilona.

1981 The Gestüt Birkhof takes over the stallion Wettstreit from Werner Schockemöhle. This stallion represents the beginning of today's insemination station and is sire to Wettruf and Wilano.

1987 The first Birkhof Foal Championships are hosted: the idea of focusing on horse breeders is spreading all over the country. A German television station shoots parts of a German TV-series on Birkhof.

1989 As of 1989, the Gestüt Birkhof is represented with an information and PR-booth at the International Horse Show in Stuttgart.

1990 The Gestüt Birkhof is the first private service station to be officially accepted as "state-approved insemination station".

1991 The facilities for guest mares are enlarged: "Guest mare stable 3" is erected with 20 single stalls.

Lanthano wins the Stallion Performance Test in Münster-Handorf. The home-bred Pélé by Pageno xx (great-grandchild of tap-root mare Solistin) is licensed, and Pagathon by Pageno xx becomes Baden-Württemberg Riding Horse Champion. He is also home-bred.

Lanthano becomes South German Champion Stallion in Alsfeld. The new indoor riding arena (20 x 60 m including stands) is erected.

1994 Approx. 5000 visitors attend the opening of the new indoor arena including stallion presentation, held over three days.

1995 First clinics for "horses from the Gestüt Birkhof" are organized – another service for the customers of our stud farm. Thoroughbred stallion Heraldik xx starts his career on Birkhof.
Medoc by Mitch becomes Baden-Württemberg Riding Horse Champion.

1996 The multiple advanced level dressage champion Landioso (Heike Görgens) is the first Birkhof-stallion to compete in Stuttgart as well as in Frankfurt. A new event enriches the Birkhof-offer: the first tournament for futurity prospects is a great success.
1997 FBW Lettina by Lanthano wins the German Riding Horse Championships with Nicole Casper – a fantastic success.
Mitch is awarded Premium Stallion.

1998 The sales weeks are another important service for our customers – five sales weeks are already planned for 2007.

2000 A German television team shoots a portrait about the Gestüt Birkhof.
The Heraldik xx / Landioso-son Humphrey wins the Baden-Württemberg Riding Horse Championships. Seven Birkhof-horses participate in Warendorf.

Percy by Pageno xx (also grandchild to our tap-root mare Solistin) ranks sixth at the European Eventing Championships for Young Riders with Nora Koch.

A new horse walker including lunging circle improve our training facilities.

2001 Our employees move into their new apartments. The first Breeders Summer Night Festival on Birkhof turns into a unique and impressive event.

2002 Alassio becomes South German Champion, fourth at the Federal Championships and fifth at the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses.

2003 Royaldik wins the 30- and 70-day performance test in Neustadt/Dosse. Highlight by Heraldik xx becomes Rhineland-Palatinate Champion for the second time. Heraldik xx presents the third halfbred Champion mare in a row in Holstein. Hera by Heraldik xx becomes Champion mare in Baden-Württemberg.

2004 Grafenstolz becomes Federal Champion and World Champion. Following his victory in the qualifier, Denaro ranks fifth at the Federal Championships.
  2005 The new stallion stable and the EU-approved insemination station are erected. Alassio's Boy wins the National Bavarian Championships. Anschu by Alassio becomes national and South German Champion.

2006 Denario is the convincing winner of the South German Stallion Licensing.
Alassio's Boy becomes Vice Federal Champion. Grafenstolz wins the bronze medal at the German Championships. Meraldik and Dave by Denaro win the Baden-Württemberg Championships.

The 20th Foal Championships including stallion presentation and presentation of sales horses are held one more time front of a huge audience. Master of Equine Management Elke Wachter and Antje Grund have been working for the Gestüt Birkhof for 15 years.

2007 "45 Jahre Gestüt Birkhof" – an exceptional jubilee year: Denario wins the Federal Championships with Nicole Casper. Don Diamond is the celebrated Champion stallion of the South German Stallion Licensing in Munich in spring, and in autumn, he completes his 30-day performance test in Neustadt/Dosse with outstanding scores. Denario and Alassio's Boy win the South German Championships with Nicole Casper. The South German event horse Champion FBW Gin Tonic by Grafenstolz earns the Vice Federal Championship-title with Michael Jung. Anabell by Acordelli is the name of the Champion mare in Baden-Württemberg, Alberto Tomba by Acordelli wins the stallion licensing at the first South German Saddle Licensing. Acordelli is nominated "Stallion of the Year".
2008 The Olympic Equestrian Games in Hong Kong were a highlight for the Gestüt Birkhof: 4 Birkhof-offspring (2 x Heraldik xx, 2 x Chambertin) participated at the Games, 3 of them won a gold medal.
Don Diamond becomes Vice Federal Champion. A hat trick for the Gestüt Birkhof and for Nicole Casper in Nördlingen: 3 Birkhof-stallions become South German Champions (Denario, Alassio's Boy and Don Diamond). Two times the incredible score of 10 at the National Championships: Don Diamond wins with a final score of 9.63. The Gestüt Birkhof qualifies as EU-approved embryo transfer station. Meeting of vets at the Gestüt Birkhof. The new championship arena by the company terrabausysteme is erected.
2009 4th place at the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses and for the second time Federal Champion: Denario with Nicole Casper.
All three medalists rode Birkhof-horses at the German Championships of event riders in Schenefeld, and all three of them were again the three South German Champions: Don Diamond, Dave and Hero Edition de Luxe. Heraldik xx takes the lead on the WBFSH eventing sire rankings.
It is the first time that Haakon by Heraldik xx and Falk Stankus win the iWest Dressage Cup on Birkhof, the Baden-Württemberg Indoor Championships.
The Gestüt Birkhof is represented with a PR-booth at the horse show in Stuttgart for the 20th time, and for the first time at the Federal Championships in Warendorf.

2010 One of the biggest successes for the Gestüt Birkhof at all: Seven participating horses by Birkhof-stallions competed for five different countries at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. Hot Spirit becomes Reserve Champion at the South German Stallion Licensing in Munich. Birkhof's Dave FBW wins the popular award "Schwarz-Goldenes Band" for the third time. Sirtaki wins the 70-day performance test in Neustadt/ Dosse. San Alfredo by Sir Alfred, bred by the Gestüt Birkhof, becomes the South German Champion with Sabina Schrödter. The German Vice Champion and World Cup winner River of Joy descends from Rubicell. The victorious Nations Cup team in Aachen rode three Birkhof-horses. Secretary of Agriculture Köberle honours senior boss Alfred Casper with the state medal in gold for his committed work for horse breeding.

2011 Dressage star Lingh is now standing at the Gestüt Birkhof.
Nicole Casper and Birkhof's Dave FBW win the iWest Dressage Cup in the Schleyerhalle in Stuttgart – following Haakon by Heraldik xx and Roche by Rubicell the third Birkhof-offspring in a row.
Birkhof's Dave and Don Diamond qualify for the Nuremberg Cup in the Frankfurt Festhalle where they occupy the fantastic places 7 and 9 in the Final. Don Diamond ranks second among all German dressage stallions on the new FN breeding value estimation with a score of 168 points.

2012 "50 years Gestüt Birkhof": 50 years of committed work for breeding and sports. We will celebrate a different highlight each month.
